Fast Charge Performance
Slow recharge time is a common complaint for many Li-ion cell end-user applications. Particularly for electric vehicles, slow charge time is a major deficiency when comparing the relatively short refueling time for internal combustion engine vehicles. While some solutions exist today, manufacturers warn users that frequent fast-charging will shorten the life of the battery. This is in part due to decomposition of both lithium salt and carbonate electrolyte occurring during the fast-charge operation.
Silatronix OS3® directly addresses these key issues of electrolyte decomposition. Shown below is fast-charge data comparing a reference electrolyte, an FEC containing electrolyte, and a 3% OS3® formulation. OS3® enabled cells maintained lower impedance, lower gas generation, and higher capacity under the fast-charge test protocol.
